Hotel Ucanca

Handy spot beside the bus station and taxi rank, but the stay was grim. One bed was falling apart, the TV didn’t work, and the taps would give either hot or cold water at random. The toilet cistern refilled loudly around the clock. At 4am, someone next door seemed to be fighting with the clothes hangers inside their wardrobe.

A good option for an overnight stop if you want somewhere fairly quiet, close to the airport, bus terminal, and cafes. Just be aware that if a comfortable bed matters to you, you may want to look elsewhere.

We chose this place because we only had cash. Our Agoda booking clearly said payment was due at the property on arrival, and the card would only be charged if we didn’t show up or cancelled. Still, when we arrived, we were told the reservation had been cancelled because payment hadn’t gone through. The man at reception didn’t seem to care and cancelled it without even trying to contact me. I only got an email saying the booking was cancelled. I’ve worked in reception for years and have never seen such a dismissive attitude.

The rooms were extremely hot, with so little air circulation that sleeping felt impossible, even though the day we visited was fairly cool. The reception staff were nice, but spoke very limited English. After dark, getting into the hotel was awkward: the entrance downstairs was locked, and the hotel was two floors up. If the night watch wasn’t awake, a room key still wouldn’t get you in. On the plus side, it’s close to the airport, clean, and fairly priced.
