Hotel Maycar

The room was a mess when we checked in: hair on the sink, a clump of it in a towel, and some kind of yellow slime on the toilet cistern. We’d booked because of the location and parking, but were told on arrival there was no parking available. With a football game on, finding a nearby spot was apparently unlikely, so we eventually parked out on the outskirts. It was €61 a night, which is a cheaper option, but cleanliness shouldn’t be what you give up for that price.

The hotel is a great base for seeing this lovely city, and the prices are hard to beat. Rooms are simple but very clean, with fresh towels, gel and shampoo supplied every day. The people working there are really nice, too. Downstairs there’s a decent coffee area where you can have breakfast for a great price. If you’re travelling on a limited budget, this is a great choice. I don’t think you’ll find the same for these rates elsewhere.

The Wi-Fi connected, but showed no signal strength and wouldn’t load pages, even though the router seemed close to my room. I mentioned it at the desk, but I don’t know what happened after that. Breakfast was okay, though the croissant, cinnamon roll and orange jam didn’t taste good. The hotel itself was clean and felt safe, and the room was decent value, with daily tidying and fresh towels. The location is excellent, but the area gets noisy: cars, loud motorcycles, bars, people, skateboards and seagulls. There’s no air conditioning or fan, so I had to sleep with the windows open. In cooler weather they might cut some of the noise, but I’m not sure they could be upgraded to soundproof the room completely.

I keep coming back to Maycar whenever I visit Coruna, mainly because of the staff. They’re so helpful and caring, and really give you their best. They’ll suggest reasonably priced places to shop and help with any request. You can reserve a room with just a phone call or email. The place is super clean and in a brilliant location. I wish some high end hotels were as good as Maycar. I’ll tell everyone to stay here.
