AC Hotel La Línea by Marriott

Our fourth-floor room was spacious and clean. The bed kept sliding around on the wood floor, though, and the shower setup was odd. I had to mop up the floor after using it.

The views from room 410 were great, and considering the price, I’d stay again. Gibraltar and the city center are walkable, about one to two miles away, though Google Maps points to the wrong side of the street. The room was decent, with okay furnishings, but felt worn and a little dingy. The woman at the desk was excellent when we arrived. Breakfast was just okay, and the next morning the staff were a bit argumentative. As Platinum Marriott members, we were told only one of us could eat, with no option offered to pay for another breakfast. I never managed to use the gym because it was always locked. The surrounding area looks run down and lower income, but probably safe.

The Wi-Fi kept cutting out, and I could hear everything happening in the next-door bathroom, very loudly. The room doors also don’t close quietly or smoothly, so people tend to slam them shut. The air conditioning is listed as an amenity even though they switch to heating in winter, which I found misleading. It wasn’t a good stay. I’d avoid this place.

The staff were very helpful, and both the bedroom and bathroom were clean. Still, this felt like a three-star hotel to us, not the advertised four. It’s dated and tired, in a less-than-great neighborhood, with restaurants about a 15-minute walk away or a taxi ride. The TV was tiny by today’s standards, just 32 inches, and the shower head came apart while I was showering. We were only there for one night before heading to Cádiz, so it wasn’t a big issue, but I wouldn’t have wanted a longer stay.
