Casa Peque

There are basically four small apartments in one building inside the walled city. Getting to the parking at the bottom was difficult, then it was a steep walk uphill and more stairs, with no elevator. Our room was really noisy, and with no air conditioning we had a bad, sleepless night. Toiletries were also nonexistent. I’d look elsewhere unless you’re stuck needing a place for the night.

The location looked great and the apartments seemed nice, so my partner and I planned to stay here. But we sent several messages to reception and got no reply, so we cancelled the booking.

We first came across Casa Peque at ArdoAraba, the wine fair in Vitoria, two years ago, and its star wine, Copas Rotas, won us over. The team’s enthusiasm is wonderful. These days we order their crianza online, and the service and products are excellent. Highly recommended!

We weren’t sure what to do when the entry code hadn’t arrived, but after we called, they were very helpful. They opened the door remotely and explained everything right away. The accommodation is elegant, well maintained and right in the center of town, a great base for a Rioja Alavesa weekend. Just remember that you can’t park inside town. Coming from Vitoria, there’s a small lot at the entrance. Another free spot is to the left after the barracks, by a clearing. That one is beside the start of a path through vineyards and past the local lagoons.
