Hotel Rural Valdorba

The hotel has potential, but my trailer was damaged in the car park. The owner later told me it’s a public car park and not the hotel’s responsibility. A shooting club next door uses the car park and restaurant, parks around the hotel, and registers at reception, so I think one of their cars may have caused the damage. Given how much business the hotel gets from the club, I can understand why the owner has no interest in following it up.

Getting there takes a long drive along a narrow road, but it was well worth it. The hotel is split between two buildings that feel completely different. The rooms are in a new, almost sterile, office-like building, while reception and the restaurant are in an old, cozy place full of plants, stuffed animals, and homey touches. Both suit what they’re used for. Our room was clean and nice, with good Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a shower, and a lovely view if you’re on the right side. It felt a little impersonal, but that’s a matter of taste. There were almost no other guests, so I can’t say how noisy it gets when it’s busy. The staff were friendly, the wine was well priced, and the food was good. The menu changes every day depending on what the hunters bring in, and the portions are huge.

We stayed for two days and wished we could have stayed longer. The modern rooms were excellent, the people were great, and the restaurant was fabulous. The setting is wonderful too, with mountain views in every direction.

We had a fantastic time, and Maite was a wonderful host.
