Cal Serni

We found the food a real reason to visit. Dinner is a good, fixed 5-course menu, mostly vegetable-based, with meat as the last course. Breakfast is generous and gorgeous, and they adapted every meal for our vegan sister. Prices are reasonable, even good value. I'd avoid the farm area. Our family room was brand new, fairly spacious, cozy and beautifully decorated. It had lovely views, even from the bathroom, plus a good-sized balcony. The rural surroundings are beautiful, though some of the outdoor decor is odd, and the pool area is especially uninviting. Everyone was very friendly, but the timing was pretty inflexible: breakfast at 9am, or 9.30am when the summer time change applies, and dinner at 9pm. I would recommend Cal Serni. Just make sure directions take you here, not to the landmark near Berga also called Cal Serni, which is +1 h drive away.

We spent the weekend in one of the apartments, and this has made my top10 hideaways. It's a very peaceful place, thoughtfully designed, with a great blend of historic buildings and modern style. The service was really good, and everyone was extremely helpful, even though we didn't really speak the language. Great place!

The food is great, and you'll leave stuffed, trust me. Staff are very friendly and happy to help with any questions. You can also set off on some awesome hikes from here. There are lots of animals on the hotel's grounds, including horses, dogs, cats, birds and peacocks. It's very quiet here, with stunning views. The only downside I can think of is that there's no Wi-Fi, but this is a place to call down, so it doesn't really matter.

Back in 2015, I got to eat here with friends from the Alt Urgell area. As a Los Angeles girl, I never expected to find myself dining in this rustic restaurant tucked into the small village of Calvinya. It was incredible: 30 distinct bites of food, each one better than the last. An absolute must for rural tourism!
