Silken Playa Toro

The terrace is great for breakfast, meals, or time with the kids, and the apartment is close to the beach. The place is generally very nice, though a little cramped for four. There's nowhere in the bathroom to store toiletries, and while the kitchen is fine, you have to guess how to use the stovetop because its numbers and markings have worn off. There's no oven, only a very small microwave. The refrigerator is noisy enough to bother you when you're trying to sleep.

Being outside the apartment was comfortable, and the location was its only good point. We were assigned apartment number 1, so keep that in mind. On arrival, the heat was unbearable. The living room and kitchen have no windows, while I later noticed the other apartments had windows in every room. Eating and sleeping in that area was miserable, especially with no air conditioning. There were moths and spiders everywhere. During our 10-day stay I killed about 50 of each, and the cobwebs made it seem like cleaning had been neglected. The plumbing was clogged too: washing dishes and flushing the toilet could send water up through the shower drain. The shower was tiny, 75 x 75 cm, with only a curtain and no screen. Our parking space in lot number 1 had a broken ceiling and drainage problems. Pipes from the building dripped onto our car, apparently waste. It was a stay to forget. We won't return to this place or any other Silken hotel. First and last time.

The setting is spectacular, and the apartments are just a minute's walk from the beach. But everything felt neglected. The path from the parking lot was damp and poorly lit, and the furniture inside was old and outdated. The toilet seat wouldn't stay up, the shower head kept falling off its mount, which was held together with electrical tape, and there were other problems too. They hadn't even left a bar of soap in the bathroom. The mattresses were awful, like sleeping on a sack of springs instead of a pocket spring mattress. I've never slept so badly away from home. Such a shame.
