Canary Biohostel

We spent two weeks here and would happily return. The hostel was clean, homelike, and well placed for hikes and exploring the island by bus or car. Carmen and Oscar made us feel welcome and clearly put a lot of care into the place. They also shared useful sightseeing tips and fresh produce from their organic garden. Thanks for a lovely stay!

The hosts were cheerful and generous, and chatting with them always lifted our mood. They sometimes shared vegetables from the garden, too. We felt at home in the clean, nicely furnished hostel, and when our lamp broke, it was replaced right away. Our room opened straight onto the terrace, where we enjoyed breakfast with a beautiful view. There aren't many rooms, so it may stay fairly quiet, though you can meet other travelers. A lovely choice for relaxing or spending time around kind people.

The island itself is sunny and full of life, but this house felt dark, lifeless, and depressing. The rooms are dim, and the furniture is old and dark. The BIO label seems like a misleading way to make the old place sound appealing, since I couldn't see anything in the house that matched it. The large terrace could have been nice, but it only had two old plastic chairs, with no plants, flowers, or herbs. It's right beside a very busy main road, so outside noise makes sleeping with the window open unpleasant. A street lamp also shone straight into my room. Inside, you hear every step other guests take, along with sounds from the bathroom and other rooms. There are no shops or restaurants nearby. Walking anywhere means a long, very steep climb or descent. At this elevation, clouds, mist, drizzle, or rain are common, while it can be sunny down by the water. There are many other attractive, affordable places to stay on the island, so I definitely wouldn't recommend this one.

Nice staff, fun fellow guests, and a great location. No complaints, I'd recommend it, especially if you like hiking. There's no breakfast now, but a mini market and a good small supermarket are really close by.
