Hotel Villa de Luarca

We were cycling the Camino and an agency booked this hotel for us. The rooms are very modest and the hotel is basic, with just one very small bath towel. The owner wasn’t particularly gracious, and breakfast was really basic too. I’d only stay here if it were very cheap and you’re okay with very basic accommodations.

I spent one night in a big, comfortable room downstairs, looking out over the garden. It had lots of windows, with a curtain dividing the sitting area from the sleeping area, and the bathroom was very good. The old decor gives the hotel a late 19th to early 20th century feel, though the fixtures and amenities are modern. Breakfast and laundry are available by booking, and the breakfast buffet costs 6€. It’s a small town, so everything interesting is easy to reach on foot from the hotel.

It’s a beautiful place, but the receptionist had quite an attitude. It was still the cold season, yet we were told there was no heating except from 9pm till 11pm. The night was freezing. That’s unbelievable for a hospitality service, and we’ll complain to the local authorities.

The hotel has excellent facilities and a superb location. The staff were especially helpful since we couldn’t speak Spanish. Breakfast was delicious and filling, just what we needed before cycling over 100kms that day.
