AC Hotel Recoletos by Marriott

The room was basic, and for €460 a night they left just two 200 ml bottles of water. The gym was a tiny space with random Decathlon equipment, which hardly felt like a gym for an AC Marriott. Breakfast was the worst I’ve had at a hotel: a basic continental spread, and ordering eggs meant waiting 15 minutes for an omelette. The front desk was unfriendly, with none of the warmth you’d expect at this price. My first floor room was a noise nightmare. People using the emergency stairs kept slamming doors, and a garbage truck woke me at an insane hour while making a massive racket collecting several loads of trash. I travel for work, and my sleep was wrecked. Never again. This hotel missed on every level.

Downtown is about a 20-minute walk away, and the Royal Palace is another 10 minutes beyond that. Good location.

The room was lousy: no upgrade, and I was put on the second floor of this five-story hotel, looking out onto street construction. I’m a Platinum member with many stays in Spain, and I’ve always had wonderful rooms, often with upgrades. Cecilia, the manager, left a nice welcome note, but I suspect that because I used points for the two nights, they had already planned to put me in a poor room. I can only imagine what rooms guests with silver and gold status booking on points get. I’m not sure we’d stay here again. The hotel itself is modern despite its small footprint, with a great location and wonderful staff. The jazz club downstairs is convenient and special, vale Juan!

That downstairs Jazz Club was a big favorite of ours, especially my husband’s. We spent two nights at this beautiful hotel on the way to Mallorca, and its location made all the main attractions easy to reach on foot. We’re Marriott Gold Elite members and were very happy with the stay. The service, staff, and cleanliness were impeccable. What a lovely hotel. Thanks for a wonderful stay, we’d come back!
