The staff were attentive and made the hotel feel unique and unforgettable. The building itself feels like a museum, with grand rooms and very high ceilings, and the bar is a must visit. Since it was the duke's former residence, no two rooms are the same, which adds to the charm. We spent three nights in a quiet, upscale neighbourhood, which I'd recommend over the more central location of other JW Marriott hotels. It's the best hotel we've ever stayed in, and we'd choose it again on another visit to Madrid. 😀🫶☀️

I rarely write reviews because I usually stay at luxury hotels that I expect to deliver, but my experience at Hotel Santo Mauro was traumatic and embarrassing. I chose it because my partners recommended it and its location suited my business meetings. During a business meeting at the main restaurant with a well-known local restaurateur, one of the chairs broke into pieces as I sat down, and I ended up on the floor. To be clear, I'm 6ft and 200lbs, not overweight. The meeting went downhill from there and felt more like a joke than a normal business meeting. Restaurant management did nothing, and I didn't even get a formal apology. My bill had no discount or complimentary item, and still no apology. The staff left the signed invoice on the table, even though I'd included a tip as a courtesy. This wasn't reported to hotel management either. There was no manager on duty, just a concierge who only learned what had happened from me the next day. Do yourself a favor and pick another hotel in the area.

We spent a week here and had a really incredible stay. Our room was spacious and lovely, and the staff were helpful and courteous the whole time. It was in a secondary building across the courtyard from the main one, on the ground floor, so we could walk straight outside from our room. The only downside was that there were almost no windows and not much sunlight. The outdoor bar was a welcome place to sit with a cool drink around midday and watch people go by. Santo Mauro has a quiet elegance, and it's my top choice for a return trip to Madrid.

The suites and shared areas at SM hotel are beautiful, and the service was excellent. Rocio at the restaurant was especially efficient and friendly, and Elena at the front desk was great too. We missed having a steam room or sauna to relax in after a long day out, though. We've just returned from a great stay and will definitely be back!
