Chic & Basic dot

The location was hard to beat: Puerta del Sol is practically around the corner, Plaza Mayor is a little farther, and the Prado, Reina Sofia, Royal Palace and cathedral, and El Rastro are all within a 20 minute walk. There are loads of good restaurants and plenty of shopping too. Even in the off season, there was lots of foot traffic, especially at weekends, but we enjoyed the lively surroundings and it didn’t bother us. We stayed five nights and found exactly what we wanted, maybe more: a clean place at a reasonable price in the city center. The atmosphere is contemporary, playful, and cool. Our room was admittedly small by American standards, but very clean, and the twin beds were comfortable. We didn’t use the TV, so can’t comment on it. You’re in Madrid, after all. We were glad we chose breakfast at the adjoining Naked & Sated. I’d seen some complaints about the price for what you get, but I have a big appetite and it suited me fine. My wife and I both thought the food was excellent quality and a great start to the day. The hotel staff deserve a mention too. Several people helped us, including Rafa and Kevin, though sorry, I can’t remember the others’ names. They responded right away, gave us useful suggestions and directions, helped plan transfers, and were super friendly. They seemed genuinely interested in talking with people from other countries. Thank you all.

The staff were super friendly and did everything they could to help us. Thanks to chic and basic for having us! This is a quaint little hotel with an awesome location, right in the middle of the city’s hustle and bustle. It can be busy, but everything is within walking distance. A couple of things to know: from November to January, road closures can make it tricky for taxis and Ubers to get through the crowds. The room was smaller than we expected, and there isn’t really room service, though the staff will try their best to help. Aside from that, we had an amazing stay.

They were happy to keep our bags when we arrived before check-in, so we could go explore Madrid. For the price, this is a great spot in the historic center, with everything close enough to walk to. The front desk staff were very helpful too. On our last night the water stopped working for quite a few hours. It seemed to be a water pressure problem, though I’m not sure whether it came from the hotel, the building, or the city.

We had to change our reservation at the last minute, and the staff went out of their way to make it work. The rooms were clean and beautiful, and the location is handy if you want to be near the center and lots of shopping.
