HA San Mateo Suites

The room at H-A suites was small but had everything we needed. It was renovated, clean, and tidy, and the air conditioning worked well. The location was good, with easy access everywhere and close to the metro and many nice restaurants. There’s even a local bar with good vibes just downstairs. I’ll come back again!

The hotel was easy to navigate and in a great location. I did have trouble getting in touch with reception. I emailed twice to ask when someone would be at the desk and whether there was somewhere to leave luggage, but didn’t get a reply. On the morning of check-in, I called and followed the phone prompts without ever reaching the hotel. Luckily everything worked out, but it was frustrating to be walking with suitcases and not know if I could reach reception.

There was no one on site, and staff didn’t respond over WhatsApp. They have several numbers, so apparently guests are expected to know which number to call and on which day and time. The service was terrible. Breakfast came in a box delivered the day before and left in a hot room. It had things that spoil, including yogurt and a sandwich with cream, and they weren’t put in the fridge. That felt very unhealthy. There was no coffee or tea, and no water except from a tap that tasted horrible.

Those complaints about noise don’t match my stay. It was mostly quiet, and I slept just fine. I also liked having large lockers to store luggage safely if you arrive early or leave late. The one thing to plan around is the front desk. It might close around 8:00 pm, though I’m not certain. You need a fob to get inside, so arriving after that could be difficult. Time your flight accordingly. I had a fantastic stay: the room was clean and quiet, the en-suite bathroom was great, the staff were attentive, and the location was close to everything.
