Hostal Asuncion

The room was fine, nothing special, but the location was good. Arriving after a long trip was stressful and confusing: there was no reception, no keys, and nobody there to help or understand us. I had to message the number on WhatsApp, and they asked me to fill out some information before sending a door code. It would've been much better if they'd explained that process beforehand.

It's a hostel, not a hotel, and the rooms are below hotel standard, though still decent. The main upsides are the price, location, and being able to come and go independently. We had spacious, clean, functional rooms with windows and very good WiFi. The check-in and all communication happen over WhatsApp, with no reception. Staff there communicate easily in English. The cleaning women speak only Spanish, but they're friendly and patient. It was a unique experience, but a pleasant one.

The room walls were so thin I could hear everything the couple next door was doing. I got jealous, probably, haha. I liked the central location, with a metro stop right out front, and the price was convenient for three people. I paid around 270 for three nights. The welcome was awkward: an intercom voice gave information, and we had codes to remember instead of keys. It gives you some freedom, but I missed having a person to ask about the place or get suggestions for where to eat. Still, it's a good, cheap place if you want to stay centrally.

The room itself was good, but they cancelled it while I was asleep in it, and I was charged again on booking.com. It might have been an honest mistake, but be careful when booking. Take photos of everything and save screenshots of the chat, and keep your wits about you.
