Hostal Ruano

The sheets had hair all over them, there were no towels, and the room smelled musty. We checked out after one night, and the receptionist didn’t even ask if everything was okay. It’s probably a common occurrence!

If you're going to be out exploring most of the day and only need somewhere to sleep, the room will do. It was clean and spacious enough, though definitely outdated. The location is so accessible that I’d give it five stars on that alone. My mobile data barely worked because of the poor signal, and the Wi-Fi was painfully slow, almost nonexistent. If you depend on maps and internet on the day you travel, do a bit of research before you arrive at this hostel. The photo below was taken just outside.

I’d booked ahead and stopped at Hostal Ruano for a much-needed three-hour nap after an early morning arrival from a long flight. The staff were helpful and accommodating. The room was clean and had beds, a closet, TV and sink, and the shared bathrooms were clean too. It’s right by Plaza Puerta del Sol, a central tourist destination. I’d recommend it.

The location is good, but definitely not worth it. We realized there were bedbugs when it was already too late and had to throw a lot of stuff away because of them.
