The staff were professional and helpful, and the reception, bar area, and location all looked pleasant. But the service and amenities don’t seem to match the price. There’s no kettle or coffee machine, body cream, robes, sandals, or gym, so it’s hard to see what makes this a four-star hotel. The services feel pretty standard for the high cost, and I’m not sure the four-star rating is warranted.

We skipped breakfast at the hotel and tried Punto kafe up the street. It was very expensive and unwelcoming, so in hindsight we would’ve been better off sticking with the hotel breakfast. The hotel itself was nicely appointed and well located for exploring central Madrid. We couldn’t get the heating right because of an issue with the air conditioning system, but the hotel eventually disconnected it so it wouldn’t bother us. I can only give the service three stars because of the grumpy bar lady. She couldn’t make a cosmopolitan properly. There’s only one way to make a Cosmo, and we turned it down twice because it wasn’t right. She practically threw it down the sink when we declined it. Really unprofessional.

The bar at Motel One has a stylish, swanky look, with moody lighting and a great atmosphere. I ordered an old fashioned, and Prince offered to make me a whiskey cocktail that wasn’t on the menu. It was delicious and unique. 10/10, I recommend the bar.

We only stayed one night at Motel One Madrid, but it was a really pleasant experience. The design was elegant and modern, the interiors were stylish, and the hotel felt comfortable and welcoming. Everything seemed well thought out, and the location in the heart of Madrid was excellent. A lovely mix of modern simplicity and refined elegance.
