The design makes this place memorable, with a different style on every floor, and the staff were friendly and ready to help. Breakfast was decent and offered a good selection. It's also very close to the metro, which made getting around easy. We stayed on the 3rd floor, which was quite dark. The room felt small because a large marble table and fixed bench took up so much space and couldn't be moved. The pillows were unusual and could be more comfortable. It seems some comfort and function were sacrificed for the design. Stylish and fun to explore, especially for design lovers, but perhaps less cosy and practical for others.

The futuristic look is the obvious draw here. Hotel Puerta América has all-white interiors, curved walls, and a minimalist feel that reminded me of stepping into a sci-fi set. The room was spacious and clean, with a nice view from the large window, but the modern design sometimes made comfort and practicality harder. The biggest problem was that no irons or steamers were available for two days. That was extremely inconvenient when travelling and trying to get clothes ready. For a hotel of this standard, I'd expect those essentials to be readily available. The concept and architecture are unique, but the service and practical details didn't meet expectations. It might suit someone visiting for the design alone, but I found it short on the comfort and service I wanted.

Each floor belongs to a different designer, and the architecture is the reason to stay here for a few nights. I think I was on the 4th, with white curved walls that reminded me of the insect castle in Ender's Game. Fun, though maybe too much over a longer stay. ;) The bath was an unexpectedly special touch, and breakfast was good quality. The hotel is a few hundred meters from the nearest station, close to restaurants and Mercadona, and quiet enough for a good night's sleep. If you want somewhere different where you can spend a few nights inside an architectural concept, I guess this is the best place in ES.

The staff were warm and personable, and the room turned out to be perfectly normal despite the eerie hallway outside. I was almost a little disappointed after bracing for something from The Shining! The beds were comfy, the toiletries were lovely, and there was plenty of room. The bathroom was unusually big for Europe, probably thanks to the huge tub. I had been uneasy after reading such mixed reviews and seeing some questionable room photos. A few things did let it down: the outlets need updating, the floor could use a better clean, and the shower was small and leaked at the door. Breakfast had a good setup, but €30 is more than one person can eat. Still, I’d be glad to stay again if I’m back in Madrid.
