Room Ventura

The location is excellent, within walking distance of Madrid's main tourist sights. In the common area on the first floor, there's free drinking water, plus a kettle, oven and microwave. Wi-Fi was fairly stable, and the room key and keyed lock came with a €5 deposit, refundable at checkout. The eight-person room had two toilets and one shower, while the two washbasins were out in the lobby, an inconvenient spot that made washing hands noisy. Beds had no curtains, though each had a light and charging outlet. Everyone gets a long, rectangular locker that locks, just large enough for my 45-liter backpack. There was no hairdryer. The water heater broke on the second night, so I couldn't shower. Maybe because of that, they didn't charge for luggage storage at checkout.

The location was a big plus, really close to the city center. The hostel was clean and comfortable, and the rooms weren’t crowded, so there was room to move around. Showers were spacious with hot water, and there was air conditioning and a key for the lockers. The staff were lovely too. I honestly have nothing to complain about. Highly recommend.

I don’t write many reviews, but I wanted to share this because people should be careful with their belongings. Keep your phone with you. Mine was stolen from the room while I was staying there. I went to the restroom and heard someone enter and then leave. When I came back out, all my roommates were asleep, but my phone was gone. I spoke with the staff, but they weren’t very helpful in figuring out who had come in. As far as I understood, only the guests assigned to that room and staff should have access. Again, every roommate was asleep while I was in the restroom.

The location is great, and the staff were genuinely kind and friendly. I really liked them. The room was another story. Room 17 was extremely hot because the AC was broken. Don’t take a bed in there unless you’re okay trying to sleep in over 40 degrees (98 degrees) in summer. I couldn’t sleep, and they offered me free breakfast as compensation. Breakfast was fine, but I would have preferred a 50% refund since I got no sleep at all. There’s also no privacy curtain on the beds, and the bathroom is inside the room, so anyone getting up in the night to use the toilet or shower wakes everyone else. I don’t want that, honestly. I’m unlikely to come back, mainly because of the heat, the lack of curtains, and the bathroom setup. They’re missing out on bar sales by not opening and staffing their bars. The space and setup are already there, and it should have been open June 1. By mid June, there still wasn’t happy hour, music, drinking games, or anything like that. It feels like a missed opportunity.
