Hotel Vincci Madrid Centrum

Our room was dusty and had a spider web, and the bed situation was handled very badly. I’d booked and paid through booking specifically for one large bed, but on arrival they said only a room with two singles was available. They said we could cancel and leave, but wouldn’t get a refund. They then asked for another 33 euros to upgrade to a room with one large bed. We paid, only to find it was a regular room, not an upgrade. I asked either for a full refund so we could leave or for the promised upgrade, but they refused. I contacted booking as well, and they said there was no availability policy, and even if there had been, I should have been told before.

The location is very good, though the street is busy. The room was nicely designed and used good-quality materials, but Room #110 had a window facing a dark 3x3 meter air shaft. It felt gloomy, almost like a basement, and barely livable. The booking description and photos didn’t mention or show this, which I found misleading. There were also carts of dirty laundry, vacuum cleaners, ladders, and cleaning and maintenance gear left in the hallway right outside my door. Apparently this happens every afternoon. That’s not what I’d expect from a hotel claiming four stars. I ended up paying to upgrade, and the total was high enough that I could have picked much better options in the city. I’d avoid this hotel unless you’re willing to pay for a higher-category room.

We booked at Vincci a couple of times during our trip through Spain, but this location had the worst front desk service at check-in. We’d reserved a two-bed room, then were told they had only a queen room unless we paid extra to upgrade to two beds. We stayed with the queen bed at first, at no added cost, but the corner room had a really awkward layout. When we called to switch, the desk said, “I told you when you checked in.” In the end, we paid more for the upgrade, and got a room the same size with the two beds we’d originally booked. It felt like they hadn’t given us the right room and then made us pay extra for it. We stayed two nights, and they didn’t even refill the water. Vincci in other cities or other parts of Madrid may be good, but this one wasn’t.

Getting around Madrid was easy from Vincci Centrum, and the staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. We had a very comfortable, enjoyable stay. I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.
