Pensión Barlovento

Those dirty burn marks all over, the ashtray, and the rotten sneakers sitting on the windowsill made it seem like nobody even tried. And that's on top of the smell, broken interior, rough neighborhood, and no explanation at all about checking in. They can't speak any language except Spanish, either. Come on, you're not even pretending to care.

We stayed ten nights with my partner. At first glance the hostel seemed looked after, but the rooms told another story. There was a bad smell, and dust on the lampshades, drawers, and under the bed looked like it hadn't been wiped away for weeks. The bathtub was clogged. The owner supposedly offers three free Wi-Fi connections, but in practice only one worked for the whole hostel. It wasn't good enough for watching anything or even finding information online.

The room was pleasant and clean, but tiny. There wasn't a normal outside-facing window; the one window looked into a corridor. Finding the entrance was difficult, too.

Everything I needed for a night's sleep was there, and the beds were comfortable. The shower had hot water, and there's a bakery close by for breakfast.
