Alua Calas de Mallorca Resort

The views were incredible, and a short walk took us to the lovely beach at playa de domino's. We spent four days here and loved the place. The food was really good and changed each day, and the all-inclusive stay included my favourite club, which was awesome. Everything seemed very clean and tidy, and the staff were always ready to help. There were no downsides for us, and we’ve found our favourite place and will come back. Thanks to all the staff and managers for doing such a great job. After an all-inclusive trip to Turkey where we felt like cattle, this was the complete opposite x

The pools were decent and the gym was okay. Food was fresh, hot, and up to a good standard, and I made good use of the cocktail machine. The hotel itself is gorgeous, and the staff were energetic, always smiling, and full of friendly banter.

We found it a relaxing place to stay, and getting around was easy: local bars and shops were a 10-15 minute walk, with a bus stop nearby for different destinations. We’d read some unhappy reviews about the food and cleanliness, so we arrived with low expectations, but were pleasantly surprised by our week at Alua Calas. Check-in was quick. We stayed on the 11th floor of the 'Mirador' building, where the views are stunning. The room, like parts of the hotel, felt a bit tired but was functional. On one very rainy day, water came down the bathroom walls. There was always something decent to eat, though we would have liked the food, especially breakfast, to be hotter. We could always find a sunbed at this time of year and simply went down when we were ready, without reserving one.

We saved all year for our 20-month-old’s first holiday, but this hotel ruined the trip. Within 1.5 days, all three of us had food poisoning, so we had to cut the holiday short and go home. The buffet was awful. Some meat was undercooked and seemed unsafe, and we nearly ate raw chicken. Other guests were complaining too. There was very little for children, and even finding plates and cutlery was difficult. We ended up living on plain pasta and fruit. Our room had serious problems. The shower swung between boiling and freezing, so we couldn’t bathe our baby safely. When our child was sick, reception first said they had no towels or bedding to help, then reluctantly gave us two towels and a little blue roll. The toilet often overflowed, the bathroom and hallway smelled of mould and urine, and the shower screen was loose and wobbling, like it could shatter. We told management, but nothing was repaired and nobody came to check. A generator directly below our “sea view” room made constant noise and kept us from sleeping. The facilities weren’t as described either. The advertised “kids play area” wasn’t there, and the indoor pool, one of the main reasons we booked, had been closed for months. Several staff said it hadn’t been open in ages. The outdoor pools were freezing, though that was expected for the season. This was not what we paid for. The hotel needs a serious inspection. It felt unsafe and unsanitary, and its online description was completely misleading. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially to families with young children.
