Brutal.

The location is good, and the place has charm, but the stay was frustrating enough that I wouldn’t want to repeat it. When we arrived, it was shut, and the number posted on the door was disconnected. The bar and restaurant close on Saturdays, and we couldn’t leave our bags or even use a bathroom before heading out to sightsee. We couldn’t reach anyone until we called again at 3:00 PM. A busy staff member said she’d leave the keys in a flowerpot by the entrance, but when we returned they were gone. Another guest let us in, and after we called again we collected the key at reception. We hadn’t seen anyone working there in the three days. The room seemed acceptable at first, though the place could use some investment and attention. You can hear everything from the other rooms, and the bathroom floods whenever you shower. Someone came in on Sunday to change the towels but didn’t make the bed. We hadn’t wanted anyone entering, but if they were going to, I thought they could at least make it. We tried to be more careful the next time we showered, but water still escaped into the bedroom, and the towels wound up on the floor again. The cafeteria was also closed Sunday and Monday, which was a public holiday. I thought hard before posting this because I don’t like dwelling on the negative, but this time the experience really let us down.

We felt like part of the family here. The service, cleanliness, and food were all excellent, and everyone was so welcoming. SU is one of the best people I’ve ever met. We’ll definitely come back.

We’ve used this place for several nights as a base at the start and end of different trips. It’s well placed for exploring, with plenty of free parking. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and spacious, though not luxurious. The service was excellent, and they really did their best to make us feel at ease. There’s a bar downstairs serving good lunches and dinners at fair prices, with generous portions.
