The big issue here was the reception. I felt completely unwelcome, and I’d suggest looking elsewhere unless you speak Spanish. I had a confirmed reservation made about 24 hours earlier through a major hotel booking site, but everything was shut when I arrived. The site and the door both said it was open all day, with check-in from 13h-20h30. I rang twice and got no answer. Then I called the number on the reservation. A man answered, spoke only Spanish, and made no effort to help. I know a few Spanish words, but not enough for complicated questions. I told him I had a reservation and was at the door, which seemed clear enough, but he just kept speaking louder on the phone. After a while, a woman came to the door. She was also very unfriendly and spoke only Spanish, with no effort to understand what I was saying. She couldn’t find my reservation. Even when I held the confirmation on my phone right in front of her, she still didn’t want to check me in. I was seriously thinking of finding somewhere else, but the booking site would probably charge me for not showing up. She tried calling someone a few times, but nobody picked up. After 10 minutes, she finally checked me in, then spent five minutes fighting with the copier to make a copy of my ID. They only accepted cash, and I wasn’t given a receipt. The hostel itself was cheap, but the rooms were run-down and need refurbishing. The mattress was hard, though what can you expect for that price? Later, the booking site contacted me to say the hostel had marked me as a no-show and wanted to charge me again. I have no receipt from these amateurs.
