Apartamentos Cala D'Or

We've stayed here plenty of times without any issues, but this visit with our six-month-old was different. There was no air conditioning, so I asked to rent a fan. They told me to come back in the morning and showed no concern that the baby could be overheating. They said there weren't any fans, even though I could see four through the glass. When I pointed them out, they just stuttered. The lack of empathy for my child has me seriously wondering whether I'll ever return to Cala D'or.

We came because it was a family birthday, though this isn't somewhere I'd normally choose. The hotel was clean throughout, and our room was okay. The first one smelled strongly of smoke, but they moved us to another with a better view. Staff were friendly and helpful. There's a small nearby supermarket that's cheaper than the larger ones. The hill is a drawback, with 206 steps down, though there are plenty of taxis. There are good restaurants and bars around, and the hotel also serves food at its bar. The pool area gets sun around 11. The entertainment man is very good, with lots of activities and free drinks.

We liked being able to use the bar and pool facilities at both Altair and Cala Dor, and the Altair pool was the quieter one for us. The apartment was good-sized, with a fully equipped kitchen, a small bedroom and a dressing table. The sea-facing balcony had a very nice view of the hotels opposite. Nights were loud until 4 because of the bars and pubs downstairs. With no air conditioning, closing the windows meant getting too hot. Housekeeping doesn't come daily, so bear that in mind with the towels. There's entertainment every evening, which may not suit everyone. Still, we thought it was good value for money.

The rooms are basic but clean, and the staff are friendly. Good value for the money. I'd stay again.
