MARA T.
This review concerns Apartment 5, the "deluxe apartment" in the Morea Beachfront Suites complex in Puerto Rico. It's one of five apartments there and says nothing about the other four. The company's own review link placed the property in the middle of nowhere on Google Maps, so keep that in mind if you're using this review to decide where to stay. The beds were painfully uncomfortable for us, like sleeping on the floor. The mattresses felt cheap and rock hard. Some people might like that, but we didn't. We asked for mattress toppers after the company said in its reply that they were available, and were told no. We knew the apartment was between two major roads when we booked. One is above it and the other runs right at the end of the patio. Both get heavy tour and transfer bus traffic, and a street sweeper makes a noisy early morning run. We didn't realize the ground floor had single glazing and no soundproofing. The word "deluxe" apparently doesn't include double glazing. It didn't bother me too much, but light sleepers are likely to be woken up, especially with those beds. The roof sun terrace is about 20 feet from the high road, so it's noisy there too. Most of all, this isn't a "deluxe apartment." The online photos are years out of date, and many aren't of Apartment 5 at all. It looks like there was water damage, followed by a quick, poor repair. A Google search for "flooding - Gran Canaria" shows what happens in winter here these days. Paint is peeling off the window frames, the front door appears to have been kicked in, and the living room wallpaper is coming off the walls. The flooring has been replaced since the website photo was taken, laid in a different direction, and is lifting in places. The redecorating is poor too, with paint splashes on outside walls, door frames and stairs, and bubbling paint in some spots. On our second night, we had a power failure. When I opened a housing that protects electrical wiring, its broken door fell off. Anyone could open it. Fortunately, we don't have young children. Cleaning was poor as well. The skirting boards were grubby, and there were little piles left by the previous occupants in some corners. The old sofa has been re-covered, which isn't shown in the online photos. The whole place felt grim, and after three nights my wife and daughter moved to a hotel. We complained after getting home and learned the company is an intermediary that doesn't own the properties it rents. It seems to think it has a luxury place because it relies on old photos and doesn't check often enough. Or it's willfully blind to the faults, or just doesn't care. Reading its response suggests all three. They should fix the problems, update the photos, or rent it for half the current price. It isn't worth the money, and there are plenty of cheaper or better places in the resort. Personally, I'd avoid this apartment and probably the company altogether. When we raised our concerns, they basically told us to get stuffed and tried to pretend everything was fine, despite the photo evidence attached to this review. Their reply only reinforces that judgment. AVOID.
