Cordial Mogan Solaz

This is a huge hotel complex with the Solaz attached, and the pools get very busy, though there are plenty of loungers. If you want an adults-only stay, steer clear. There’s no smart TV in either the bedroom or lounge, so you can’t use Netflix or Prime, which is ridiculous. It’s called a five-star resort, but doesn’t quite feel like one.

We found the Solaz a great alternative to staying in the Playa hotel itself, especially with a young child: there’s plenty of space and a break from the big, busy hotel. The newer block, apartment 303, is just yards across the road. We’d worried about the distance and traffic, but no cars passed while we crossed, and it wasn’t an issue. The apartment was modern and spotless, thanks to friendly housekeeping. It had a double bedroom, large shower bathroom and spacious living room/kitchen with a sofa bed. The dishwasher was useful, and the washing machine especially handy during the week. Patio doors from both the living room and bedroom open onto a patio with seats, a drying rack and adjustable shade. A spiral stairway by the front door leads to the roof terrace, which might not work for someone with mobility issues, although elevators serve all the apartments otherwise. The terrace was a good size, with three sunbeds, adjustable shade, a shower by the pool, and our own jacuzzi overlooking the town and sea. It was a lovely escape from the crowds. The only concern in choosing Solaz over the hotel is getting around: reception can be about a five-minute walk from the room, though some hotel rooms may be similarly far across the large grounds. A relaxing place to holiday, with great apartments, a lovely hotel, friendly staff and really good local restaurants.

The room was lovely and spacious, with a huge balcony and hot tub. The pool was lovely, too, and restaurants along the harbor front are only a short walk away.
