I’ve gone back to check during the last two years, but the kitchen has never been open. I miss the grilled meats. So I drove to Sopalmo and really enjoyed La Buena Vida, just five minutes away.

The menu del dia is excellent value at €14: a lovely salad and fresh bread, then soup, meatballs, a drink of your choice and coffee. It’s very popular with Spanish workpeople, and the beer is good too. I didn’t have one today, unfortunately, as I was driving.

The €20 steak was a thin, dry piece of cheap beef, and what was described as Iberian pork was just regular pork. We paid €20 for each. When we complained, the waiter or owner just shrugged and said that was how it was. A good place to ruin your day. Avoid it.

They only had chicken, lamb cutlets, rabbit and steak on offer, but the portions were very good. It can get pricey depending on what you order.

The service was great, and the food was good and healthy. It’s a very rustic place, out in the middle of nowhere.
