Hotel Abat Cisneros Montserrat

A three-star hotel that's easy to reach by train, funicular or car, with the monastery right next door and its rich history. The mountain and Madrid views were fabulous. I also loved the breakfast buffet and enjoyed a nice lunch at the restaurant. Great value.

Our room was stuffy when we visited at the end of May, and the window didn't solve it: mosquitoes came in, while the gardener's truck started up at 6am. There was no AC, so I'd avoid coming in summer. The room's view wasn't great either, partly blocked by the building in front of the hotel. And the shower was so cramped that I doubt anyone could move without hitting the wall, sliding doors or faucet knob.

The hotel is clean, with friendly and helpful reception, and the location is perfect for tourist spots and hiking trails. Don't expect modern or high-tech rooms, but they have what you need and there's cute antique furniture throughout. Breakfast was fine, though I'd have liked more variety. There's also a small park beside the hotel, which makes it a good option for families with kids. I really enjoyed my stay.

We had a night and evening we'll remember for a lifetime. The rooms are a little dated, but have all the amenities you need. I highly recommend asking for a room facing the monastery. The views over Barcelona at night are incredible, and we woke up above the clouds. We were bikepacking, and having a secure bike garage was a big help.
