The breakfast was astonishing, and they really know how to make a foodie happy. I fell in love with this place. The people working here are so kind, thoughtful and helpful, especially Raquel, who is amazing. It’s an authentic, beautiful hotel with clean, comfortable rooms and well-kept facilities, everything you need for a relaxed stay. It’s right next to the village square.

The owners made the stay feel like visiting friends, and their recommendations for places to see were lovely. The service and attitude were the best we had on our Spain trip. This small boutique hotel is full of thoughtful touches, from homemade yoghurt and speciality smoothies served by the owners’ daughter in the morning to the lemon tree in the garden. The pool, book-filled honesty bar and patio for evening chats were lovely extras, and the white mountain town itself was beautiful. We chose the hotel to be near Caminito del ray, Ronda and Setenil de las Botegas, but packed too much into the day and missed Alex’s recommended six-course dinner. We came back while it was still going and got a special desert as a compliment. We won’t miss that dinner next time. A truly unbeatable boutique experience.

We’ll definitely come back to La Posada del Angel in Ojén. We were in Marbella last year and didn’t know about it then. This was the most authentic, charming hotel we’ve stayed at, and we even hugged the staff goodbye. We do feel bad that we forgot to tip the lady who cleaned our rooms, and hope we can still send her some money. We were three adults and a child in two rooms, from Monday 7 July to Friday 11 July. The welcome was warm from the start. Parking is a little way from the hotel, so a staff member picked us and our luggage up in a golf cart and drove us through the narrow village streets. The Spanish-style building feels beautifully authentic. Breakfast was served in an open-to-the-sky indoor courtyard with a lemon tree in the middle. Each morning we had homemade yoghurt, fresh fruit and granola, then bread, homemade jams, cold cuts and meats, cheeses and freshly squeezed juice, all brought to the table. We could choose boiled, fried or scrambled eggs too. It made for a relaxed start, much nicer than a buffet. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. They asked about allergies and took good care of our request for gluten-free options throughout the stay. Breakfast is usually the only meal served, but one evening we were invited to dinner because a staff member’s husband is a chef. The six-course meal and atmosphere were a highlight. There’s no minibar or fridge in the rooms. Instead, there’s a small room with drinks and snacks, where guests write down what they take, plus a large shared kitchen with a fridge for our own food and drinks. If you’re after an ultra-modern, twelve-floor hotel with lifts, this isn’t the place. But for a unique, memorable stay, it’s a must.

There were some good points: A/C in the room, a large bathroom, nice staff and a good breakfast. But the layout was odd, with the toilet in a separate room next to the kitchen and the bathroom across the room without a toilet. The shower also drained so slowly that water overflowed. We had no view or balcony, and could hear everything outside, including hotel and village noise. Walking through the hotel felt uncomfortable because, in my experience, people gave us judgmental looks. Parking was a real hassle. Spaces are far from the hotel, hard to find, and a long walk when carrying bags, especially if you’re hungover. The hotel didn’t tell us about village events that affected parking, so we’d come back to find no spaces and had to look farther away. Most staff were incredibly nice and friendly, though a few seemed unprofessional. I won’t name them. The room I got also wasn’t shown in any of the website photos.

It honestly felt like home. The property is beautiful, and our rooms were distinctive, comfortable and very clean. The hosts were incredibly kind and gave us lots of useful tips about the city, parking and local attractions. They even collected us and our luggage from the car park by buggy, which we really appreciated. Breakfast had a delicious range of homemade products. A warm, lovely stay that we highly recommend. 10/10.
