Green Hostel

The location in Oviedo is great, but guests still deserve basic respect. This is a hostel and we pay for our stay. Check-in at 15:30 is unreasonable when you can’t enter the building to leave your bags, walk around, or even wait inside for that last hour. Four and a half hours to get a bed ready? And the delay clearly wasn’t spent making the place spotless. The person at reception showed me the “Private bathroom” in a state that should have been embarrassing. It looked like a bus station restroom, and it’s in the corridor by the kitchen, where anyone can use it. A sign on the door is the only thing making it “private,” and people ignore it. Breakfast was as bare-bones as it gets: no eggs or butter, just dry items and bananas and apples that were spoiled in places. One morning the coffee tank hadn’t been refilled, so people tilted it to get a little coffee and ended up using plates to catch it.

The kitchen is handy, the location is great, and the staff are very helpful. There’s also a cute terrace. I especially liked that they cleaned regularly every day. I’ll come back for sure.

My room had two bunk beds, little lockers you could secure with a padlock, and a bathroom right next to it. I wish there had been curtains around the beds for more privacy. The hostel is easy to find in central Oviedo, close to several pretty squares and lots of restaurants. There’s also a nice view from the fourth-floor terrace.

I stayed one night before setting off on the Camino Primitivo. The location was really good, and the staff were friendly. There’s a rooftop terrace, coffee, and a basic breakfast. A great experience.
