Hotel Riu Palace Calypso - Adults Only

We had a wonderful time at Calypso and would come back. The hotel is right on a lovely, clean beach that wasn’t too crowded. The place itself was quiet, modern and very clean, with a pool area that was kept spotless and room to relax in sun or shade beneath the palms. Staff from reception, housekeeping and the kitchen were incredibly polite, kind and helpful whenever we needed anything. The food really surprised us. It was varied, full of flavour, and perfectly cooked and seasoned.

The hotel is in a stunning spot, with Morro Jable beach just steps away. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful, and went above and beyond. Special thanks to Teresa at reception for helping me find my missing suitcase, which was easyJet’s fault. Our rooms were very spacious, with huge balconies, and housekeeping cleaned them thoroughly every day. The food was fresh and tasty, though it catered more to German guests. That seemed to be the main audience throughout the hotel. I’d say about 95% of guests were German, and the staff all spoke German. Most of the entertainment was in German too. That’s fine, but we would have liked more chances to join activities and entertainment. The air conditioning wasn’t especially strong, though the room stayed comfortable. There are two main lifts, and waiting could take up to ten minutes. Housekeeping used them too, as there didn’t seem to be a separate staff lift. It’s a beautiful resort in a superb location, with lots to offer. You’ll have a lovely stay, though activities, fitness classes and entertainment will be in German.

You can hear the sea at night from this excellent beachfront hotel, which is lovely. The rooms are slightly dated, but very clean and well maintained. The restaurant food was outstanding, with lots of variety. I was surprised we were charged for water at dinner, since we only had one bottle between us and thought at least one drink would be included. The swimming pool was lovely, and I’d definitely return.

The people who made our seventh anniversary trip feel special were Terressa at the front desk, the Belgian gentleman, Alejandro at the night bar, Beautrice, Rose in the kitchen, and the tall, beautiful young Black waitress from the Dominican Republic. The hotel itself is in a lovely spot, and we enjoyed meeting other guests and making friends. We’re already looking forward to possibly coming back for Christmas 2025. There were plenty of snags along the way. Check-in was chaotic, and both the first room, which had a dreadful view, and the second room with its stunning view had broken air conditioning. The second unit was only patched up temporarily, and the minibar was at 10 degrees. Our first pool bar mix-up set the tone: we ordered two tapas and got one. This seems to be a hotel geared toward German guests, so expect German entertainment. The food was fresh and mostly good, though a little greasy. I was upset when the restaurant manager pointed at me for using a clean wine glass for fresh juice from the breakfast buffet, which was included in what I’d paid. The regular glasses smelled fishy. The pool bar manager also gave us 10 euros too little in change. That was especially frustrating because it was our last drink by the pool, looking toward the beach and imagining another visit.
