El Josemari Youth Hostel - Albergue Juvenil

I couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The location was fantastic for my short weekend in downtown Palma, and I could walk to everything I had planned. The staff were so friendly, and they sweetly upgraded my room for free. The rooms are nice, with pods that give you more privacy and comfort than I’d expect at a hostel. Everything looked very clean, and I saw staff cleaning the bathrooms several times during my short stay. Definitely recommend it.

After wandering around Palma, it was fun to have this place to come back to. As a woman travelling alone, I felt accommodated and had a good time. Laundry is available for a fee, and they provide bedding, clean sheets, luggage storage, and warm showers. The place was fairly clean and tidy. My favourite part was the atmosphere: I made friends, and the common room has games and books. On Xmas eve, everyone felt like one big family, playing music, eating, and relaxing. The staff were great and helpful even when there were hiccups. Shoutout to Victor, he’s so sweet and helpful. It’s also within walking distance of most of the centre.

I slept so well in the extra cosy room, and the bed was comfortable. Everything was clean, including the room and common areas, and the reception staff were helpful and attentive. I have no complaints and would stay here again if I’m back in Palma. You can hear noise from other rooms and the corridors, though, and there were no hangers for a jacket.

El Josemari is one of my favourite hostels so far, and I travel a lot and usually stay in hostels. I stayed in the 6-bed-female-dorm, where everyone was considerate about sharing the space. The wooden boxes with curtains gave a real sense of privacy. A small warm light stays on in the room, so nobody needs to switch on a harsh main light while others are sleeping, and it helped me find things at night without using my phone. The room’s central heating was set to 20 C, which suited me fine. There was a tiny safe by the bed and a large built-in storage space that could be partly closed. The common areas were cleaned regularly and worked well. They seemed to have chosen good quality basics, including hair dryers, and on a longer stay the staff offered to replace my big towel for free. The kitchen was well equipped; I just missed having cups that weren’t plastic, since I don’t use those. I had my own set, though. The grand piano in the common area was a lovely extra. Laundry and luggage storage were available for very reasonable extra fees. The location in the heart of the city was ideal: the airport bus stop was a seven-minute walk away, and the Central Bus, Train and Metro Station was less than ten minutes away. Even on a Friday night, the nearby streets were quiet. There’s no bar on site, so there wasn’t any partying at the hostel. It’s a great place if you want to rest and feel safe and comfortable. People were working in the common area, which could be a plus for digital nomads. The staff were all kind and helpful, and picked great music for the main common area. :)
