Dinner and breakfast at the buffet were both really good, and the rooms felt comfortable. The spa was great too. It was clean and welcoming, though the TV was tiny. My one bigger gripe was the bar closing after dinner. With no other bars in the village, you either had to drive somewhere else or stay in your room from 10:30 pm.
On New Year's Day, I found that a lot of the buffet was seafood and fish, which I can't eat, and there wasn't much choice among the other dishes. The menu cards did list allergens, but some of the dishes were still hard to identify. Apart from that, the weekend buffet is a good option, with plenty of variety, and they bring more water whenever you need it without having to ask.
The town itself felt dead and abandoned, with nothing to see or do, and the TV was about the size of my phone. Light also came through windows that wouldn't close properly. Breakfast was poor, with prepackaged pastries. The bigger issue was how noisy the stay was. Children shouted and played in the hallway, and reception did nothing to stop them. We called twice to ask if they could help, but were rudely told to leave, which wasted our whole day and trip. We'd already paid for the stay before setting out, and booked two weeks ahead. Then there was a party from 10 pm until 1 am, audible throughout the property. Nobody had told us about it when we booked or when we arrived. If we'd known, we'd have gone somewhere else, even if it were farther away, and it would certainly have been better quality. We came to relax, but it was unbearable. It's a disgrace. I wouldn't recommend the place or return, even as a gift.
We left the spa with headaches after a group of girls took over the space, shouted and laughed loudly, and used the facilities badly. It felt more like a water park than a relaxing spa circuit, which is what we'd booked to enjoy. The worst part was that nobody from the hotel was there to keep order or enforce the rules. We reported the incident at reception and filed a complaint. They didn't even apologize, and we're still waiting for a response.
I stayed on a full-service basis and had an excellent experience. The spa is family-friendly and welcoming, very clean, and a lovely place to switch off and relax. It's small, so they take care to make you comfortable. A short massage is a nice way to round out the relaxation. Salamanca is close by car if you need a break from the stress.
