The stay at Bodegas Marcos was cozy, and Penafalcon makes delicious wine without chemicals or pesticides. David, the son, really knows his stuff. The views of the castle and vineyards are gorgeous, too. The three-star rating is because we couldn’t use the pool. A large group was in the pool and the adjoining garden for most of the day. After dinner at 7:45 pm, it was still 78 degrees and the pool was free, so we fancied a dip. But we were told it was closing and wouldn’t reopen until 11:30 the next day. Since checkout is at noon, there wasn’t really time to use it then either. At 200 euros a night, that felt a little steep.

Bodega Marcos en Peñafiel gets my highest recommendation. We were eight friends on a four-day wine tour in ribera del duero this september, and staying at marcos the whole time was the best decision we made. Everything was top notch. Five stars. 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

The castle looks exceptional at night, and the area was peaceful for the kids. We all had a wonderful stay. The cottage was spotless and just as advertised, and the owner was very attentive.
