Hotel Sorrabona

The Spaghetti Bolognese I had was fine, but my partner's chicken escalope was almost raw. It was thin and breaded, so he didn't notice until he'd eaten quite a lot, including a whole escalope. The chicken looked very raw, though it was warmish. The waiter saw it immediately and was apologetic. He offered a replacement, which we declined, and we asked him to show the chef. He did, but the chef never came out. A professional chef should make sure chicken is cooked through and at the right temperature. We were there with our family, including two small children, and thankfully my partner was the only one who ate the chicken. We have to drive back through France tomorrow morning, so now we can only hope he doesn't get food poisoning. Raw chicken is dangerous. We had paid when ordering; otherwise I don't think we would have paid the bill. That wouldn't undo such a poor and dangerous restaurant experience anyway.

The apartment was nice, the bed was fine, and the staff were lovely and helpful. We stayed in the apartments about a five-minute walk from the hotel. There was a problem with the TV, but it was fixed the next day. We booked through love holidays, which didn't mention the €150 deposit or €15 tourist tax due at check-in. I assume that's standard at many hotels around Europe, but I hadn't known, so now you do. It was a very nice stay overall. The bed could have been more comfortable, and after seven nights that's why I rate it 3/5.

The shower could use some work, since the water sometimes wouldn't drain properly. Apart from that, it was a delightful stay at a hotel with history. It felt like spending summer with relatives, in the best way. The staff were 5++, so lovely and helpful.

We arrived by bus around 7 a.m. and had to wait until 1 p.m. to check into our room. People on the street could look straight inside, and I felt my privacy had been violated. We asked to change rooms, but the staff couldn't help. The location was nothing like the picture, and a train runs between the hotel and the beach many times. The room had no mini fridge or good view. You have to pay extra if you want those things. Worst hotel I've stayed at in Costa Brava.
