For what it costs, this place has what you’d expect, and I found it better than the 3.6 average rating here. Pilgrims with a sleeping bag get a special price, a room with a shared bathroom, and a common area with a few kitchen utensils. You can book or ask questions about your stay via whatsapp. It’s right in the center of the village, with eateries nearby, and on the Camino del Salvador with no detour. My room light could be switched from bed, there was a power socket by the bed, and the windows darkened properly. Netflix was included, the bed cover was thick, and there was hot water. I also liked the dark blue walls and the bedside lamp’s warm white light. In my case, check-in was quite early and checkout quite late, though I don’t know if that’s usual. The accommodation doesn’t state specific check-in or checkout times. A few things would help: a trash can in the room, a dish sponge, a drainboard, and proper dish detergent. The liquid in the bathroom looked more like hand soap.

The building is very old and could use renovation, but it was clean and had everything we needed for our one-night stop during the San Salvador hike. The service was the best part. The man turned on the heating, showed us where the restaurant was, and even washed and dried our clothes for us. That was a real blessing. Thanks so much for the help!

I didn’t end up staying, so I can’t comment on the accommodation itself. A week and a half before starting the Camino del Salvador, I called to book a room in the shared accommodation. The owner said it was full, which I doubt after seeing how few pilgrims were on the route those days. He offered a room for two adults and a child for €50, and I booked and paid that amount in advance. Four days before the trip, I told him I was traveling with a child and needed to cancel. He rudely said he wouldn’t refund even one euro. We stayed in municipal hostels, and other pilgrims who used private hostels hadn’t had to pay anything upfront. I found him rude and a bit of a rip-off artist. I’d think twice before going and recommend skipping it for Pola de Lena.

We spent the night in the emergency room, then politely asked if we could cancel our second night. They banged on the door, shouted, and demanded our IDs as though we were criminals. We handed them over and asked again about canceling the last night. They just yelled more and said to take any problems to Booking.com. We stayed polite throughout. The room was a rural escape with jump scares: cobwebs on the lamp, hair in the toilet, toothpaste residue in the sink, and secondhand toilet paper. We could only use one bed because “the other one wasn’t made.” The building was propped up with scaffolding, and the hospitality felt just as broken. At check-in, they said that if we didn’t arrive before 11:99:99 PM, we’d better find another hotel. What a welcome. I’ve traveled every weekend for the last three years and have never been treated this way. It feels like the owner runs the place as his own personal therapy. I wish I’d read the reviews first. I’ve never left a bad review before because I’m understanding, but the owner brought this on himself. He told us, “If you want to say something, say it; we can all talk.” So we did. He’s probably fuming after reading this.

The building is a bit old, but the value for money is excellent. We had a spacious room with two double beds, and they let us bring our two dogs at no extra cost. I was especially pleased with the cleanliness: 10 out of 10. They cleaned daily, made the bed, and the sheets smelled of fabric softener. There was soap, shampoo, a hairdryer, and a refrigerator in the room too.
