Cortijo Opazo

We’ve stayed at the delightful Cortijo Opazo twice now, in both spring and autumn, and had beautiful weather for walking on each trip. The walking cards are very useful, and the comfortable accommodation is set up well for self catering. You can walk straight from the house into the mountains or nearby villages, and the location is amazing. There are plenty more lovely routes around the area too, reachable by car or surprisingly good public transport.

The landscape won me over: beautiful villages, wonderful views of the Sierra Nevada, and greenery even after a dry summer, thanks to water flowing down from the peaks through ancient irrigation channels. We saw sweet chestnuts, almond, olive, and apple trees. Back at Cortijo Opazo, Robert and William made the holiday special with lovely walks, picnics, and delicious home cooked meals in the garden and on the terrace. We felt peaceful as soon as we arrived, and I'm already planning a return in spring.

After 15 visits, we were devastated to cancel our latest trip because of international restrictions. Cortijo Opazo is a little bit of paradise, with colorful gardens and clean, comfortable, well equipped apartments. Robert and William take such friendly care of you and make each stay relaxing and memorable. The villages, people, mountains, and weather make this a wonderful area, whether you want to hike all day or unwind in the garden. We love the surrounding mountains, though it still takes effort to leave the garden's peace and beauty. Having your own space and the whole garden to wander in felt especially appealing in the current situation, and Robert and William can also serve delicious dinners in your own space. We can’t wait to get back as soon as we can.

I helped out in the garden, and it’s a fantastic place. William and Robert are wonderful hosts, and their home cooking is worth trying on your first day, you’ll want more. The views are breathtaking, and if you enjoy walking, they provide maps and local knowledge. Each quiet village nearby has a spring with fresh mountain water to drink. Cortijo Opazo is a great place to relax in peace, and once you’ve been, you’ll want to return.
