Hotel Cumbres Valdeón

The young people running the place were so friendly, and the location was great. I enjoyed the vino de la casa too. Very good value for the price.

The little team made this stay. They were kind and accommodating, helped us with all sorts of things, and spoke pretty good English. They even brought ice for a sore knee and served us beer after the bar had officially closed. It looks as though the hotel may have new management, judging by older reviews and photos. It’s a cute, mountain-style place, and the restaurant had room for us when other options in town were booked by tour groups. The menu had a reasonable range, though, as in many mountain places we visited, there weren’t many vegetables. Breakfast was simple, either scrambled eggs and toast or toast with jam. The town is tiny, with no real grocery store. The bakery was open from 9 to 2, but there was no bread left by afternoon. The bar in the center was always open and busy.

We had a really relaxed time here. Nice lunch menu, very friendly service, and a laid-back place.

I rarely write reviews, but I want to come back here, and this place deserves one. The hotel was full for a race, yet it was completely silent at night, which was a relief for a light sleeper like me. The views were lovely, the people were impeccable, and somehow everyone knew my first name. They were exceptionally friendly. I even questioned the breakfast charge: scrambled eggs, toast, and a drink cost just two euros. I thought that was too low, but they insisted it was the price. Dinner was really good too, even for a picky vegetarian like me. Staff helped with local questions and road cycling advice, and recommended a taxi driver I used, valdeonissimo dotcom, Conchi, who was a lifesaver. I work online in the evenings on California hours and often struggle with internet connections, even in cities, but had no issues here.
