Pazo A Freiria

The place itself is beautiful and has real potential, but it didn’t meet what I’d expect from a pazo. We had a nice room, though it was bare-bones, and we didn’t want to return. Children are welcome, which we appreciated. The three-night price with breakfast was extremely high for what was offered. Breakfast wasn’t varied: for €10 we got a weak coffee, orange juice, and Hero jam that wasn’t local, even though the area has delicious natural honey and jams. It wasn’t the continental breakfast advertised, and there was no option for anything more. At least our two-year-old daughter didn’t cost us a fortune at breakfast. There was no lunch or dinner service, despite the facilities for it, and the place felt underused. It was quite dark at night, and there was nowhere to sit and ask for a simple coffee. The cleaner was the only person around, though she did a very good job. We saw the woman who runs the pazo only when we arrived and when we paid at checkout. Nobody checked whether we were doing well or needed anything, unlike at competing pazos. When you pay to stay in a pazo, you expect more personal service, not to be left entirely to yourself. The whirlpool in our bathtub didn’t work. One day the water was barely warm, and with nobody around to ask, we had to bathe the baby as best we could.

The owner was incredibly kind and gave us great advice about our routes. The waitress at the manor house was also phenomenal and very attentive. Breakfast was continental each day: toast with tomato and olive oil, juice, coffee, and slices of sponge cake. We had a lovely late arrival one day, sitting outside at tables with a great view and having refreshments. The stone room was comfortable, especially the double bed, and the whole experience exceeded our expectations. The only small downside was that the Wi-Fi wasn’t perfect. It’s best to ask for directions since GPS can be unpredictable.

The location they gave us sent us into the middle of a road surrounded by cow fields. We eventually found the place, but parking was in a meadow, so in the heavy rain we had to carry our suitcases to the pazo entrance. The person who attended us gave the impression of being a bit too far away to run a business. The listing was misleading: it said breakfast was included, but there was no breakfast, and you had to go buy it yourself. There wasn’t anywhere to get coffee, water, or juice either. Wi-Fi was advertised, but my wife and I couldn’t find any. The room had a fridge because the radiator was too small. They list a restaurant, but say they never had one, even though the room had an information sheet with breakfast and meal times. We were very happy.

Rooms, service, quality, everything was perfect. Incredible, the best in the world 😍
