Casa Frade is set in lovely countryside, and the owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was comfortable and spotless each day, with free bottled water replenished daily. Breakfast was good, though a little variety from time to time would have been welcome. You’ll need a car and should expect to be out for the day, since there’s nothing close by. A small lounge or sitting room would have made the retreat feel complete.

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in nearby Ribadesella. The rural setting is peaceful, and the place was very clean with a really friendly staff.

It’s a cozy, pleasant hotel, but if you’re after a quiet countryside stay in July, check whether the local fair is on. The music carries on loudly until 5 a.m.
