Apartamentos El Lagar de Somo

The staff are lovely, and the place is clean, well looked after, and peaceful. The windows and shutters make it especially nice for relaxing. There isn’t much room to hang clothes, and the beach is a bit far to walk, about 25 m.

The complex looks impressive from outside, and the area is lovely, but the apartments and the people staying in them don’t seem to be looked after. We rented two apartments and had the same problems in both. Management only replied on WhatsApp, and nobody came by to check on us or apologize. We arrived at night in mid-February with a small child and found the place freezing. The thermostat didn’t warm the radiators, and we spent the night cold. In the morning there was no hot water, so we had to shower cold. We reported it and were told a technician would be sent. When we came back that afternoon, the radiators were still cold. They said they’d raised the temperature by two degrees and asked us to wait. Eventually the radiators heated, the house warmed up, and there seemed to be hot water. We went to dinner and returned at 2 a.m. to cold radiators and freezing rooms. Turning up the thermostat did nothing. It seemed they had switched the heating off overnight to save money while guests were cold. There were no extra blankets. The next morning, the hot water was gone again. We told them, and they apologized and said they’d call the technician. The boiler room was right in front of us, but nobody came for two hours. We had another cold shower and another day in a freezing house. There were other maintenance issues too, including lights that stayed on after being switched off and a broken shower screen. I can’t recommend the place.

We found it good value, with clean, well-kept apartments and attentive staff. The setting is pleasant and the location is great if you want to get away from it all. We’ll come back!

We slept really well because the beds were so comfortable. The country house felt welcoming, and we were very comfortable there. We took the ferry from Somo to Santander, then drove around the rest of the area.
