Albergue Cantoblanco

The kitchen was the most revolting part of the place. I felt like throwing up, and the photos say plenty on their own. The dining and living rooms were awful too. I was stunned to find a worker stretched out on the sofa with no socks on. Our attic room was clean, but badly ventilated, with small windows, and the heat was worse than usual.

The owners were kind and attentive, and the rural setting had walking trails. We also had private parking, a garden, and a woodshed. The three-story house is attractive and roomy, with oil heating and a lovely wood-burning fireplace in the living room. The kitchen is long but a bit narrow. We were 25 adults and children over New Year's Eve weekend in 2022-2023. There were real problems with upkeep and cleanliness: dirty drawers, a kitchen that needed a proper clean, and cutlery and the microwave that we had to wash ourselves. The old, basic refrigerator couldn’t hold enough for our group. Some bed frames were broken, the bedding was very worn, and some of us slept terribly. Wi-Fi was out because of a provider issue. Hot water was limited too. On the second morning, we had none until it had time to heat back up. The main road runs just 3 meters from the entrance, so small children need watching. We had a good stay in the end, but with better cleaning, an updated kitchen, proper maintenance, and a few repairs, this could be a fantastic house.

The kitchen was clean, and the people running the place were friendly and pleasant. But the hygiene elsewhere was appalling. We had to ask for the room to be swept and for a cloth to wipe away black dust. The bedspreads were filthy inside, and the sheets were covered with sand and hair when my young son put them on the bed. Other guests agreed with us when we raised the cleanliness issue. We only stayed because there was nowhere else available in the area.

The owner wasn’t expecting us. He demanded €70 in cash, and we had to drive more than 30 km to find him. There was no water the next day for washing or using the toilet. The bedding was poor, cleanliness left a lot to be desired, and breakfast wasn’t available. Too expensive for what you get, and I wouldn’t recommend it.
