Medplaya Hotel Regente

The entertainment was fab, and Nacho was brilliant. Most of the staff were great, and the room was too. I’d stayed here before and told my husband how good it was, so we came back in December. The main problem was the food, which was always cold. When we mentioned it, they told us to heat it in the microwave. Absolutely not. The receptionist was very rude, and a man in the restaurant was cheeky to my husband, which turned into a full-blown argument. We avoided the restaurant after that to steer clear of more conflict. Still, we had a great time otherwise, and the people we met were fantastic.

The location worked well for a pleasant walk to the main centre, and we slept well. The lifts were the fastest I’ve had for getting to the higher floors, and reception staff were very pleasant. The pool area needs some maintenance, though, as quite a few slabs were uneven. In the restaurant, there was no drinks service or tablecloths, and waitresses were slow to clear dirty plates. Our room wasn’t especially large and cleanliness was only okay. The sheets weren’t changed all week, although we got fresh towels and the bins were emptied; the shower tray also wasn’t cleaned regularly. I’d say this felt more like a 3-star hotel than the 4-star stay I expected.

The staff were amazing, friendly, helpful and professional. The hotel was clean and seemed well run. It’s far enough from the main strip to avoid the noise and bustle, but still only a short walk from all the craziness, lol. The food was good quality, though most meals seemed very similar.

I’d been expecting less after reading earlier reviews, so Regente was a pleasant surprise. It was modern and clean, and the food was more than adequate. The lift broke down but was fixed quickly. The only small issue was how rude and abrupt the restaurant staff could be. I’d come back.
