Hostal Plaza de España

The only thing that worked well was the Wi-Fi, which was stable and fast. I left without staying and booked somewhere else straight away. The room smelled of tobacco, and traffic noise came through all day because the insulation was so poor. The bathroom floor wasn't properly cleaned and the tiles had mold. I could maybe have put up with the tobacco smell, but once I lay down, another strange odor crawled up my nose. I couldn't tell whether it came from the dirty walls or the mattress. The property's listing was misleading.

We found another place for a trouble-free vacation, so I never even went to the Plaza de España guest house. I had filtered the listing on Agoda for two adults, booked a whole room, and paid the listed price for a “Double Room.” To me, that meant the room, not one bed in a dormitory. A dorm bed would normally be described as something like “Single Bed in 8-Bed Dormitory Room.” Afterward, the guest house messaged to ask for more money for the second person, saying the reservation was for one. That made no sense to me. I contacted Agoda Customer Support and reported it, but the property still refused a refund. I consider that fraud because the listing was misleading, and it showed little regard for customers.

The check-in details arrived much too late and were kind of complicated. The place isn't supposed to allow smoking, but it smelled strongly of tobacco. For a solo traveler staying just one night, it might be bearable. Beyond that, I really wouldn't recommend it. Honestly, it doesn't deserve even one star.

Great location!! The name is misleading, though: Hostal Plaza de España isn't in Plaza de España, and “hostel” made me expect some comfort, not a Guantanamo Bay style holding cell. The cleaning crew banged aggressively on the door and then threw it open. I'm still suffering from PTSD from that. The space was so tight I had to sit sideways on the toilet. The sink was blocked and covered in sputum and toothpaste, and the shower water kept changing temperature unpredictably, which felt like torture.
