HG Alto Aragón

The Pyrenees foothills are right there, and the location is fantastic. I was just passing through, but the hotel was comfortable and would also make a great base for mountain walks.

It’s a quiet, impressive setting in summer, and the area is beautiful. The building is great, though it could use a bit of a refresh. I’d also make some improvements to breakfast. The staff are good, though!

The restaurant was a bright spot: excellent food, a great breakfast and dinner at a good price, and very good service. The room was roomy and the bed comfortable, though the temperature was hard to control in winter. At check-in, the staff seemed inexperienced and didn’t give much information. Getting around was awful. Our pickup at the ski station took 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the service is interrupted, as the picture shows. There was just one driver covering all four ski stations and all the guests. The hotel is also too far from the bars and restaurants in the town centre. The gym isn’t worth bothering with: four pairs of dumbbells, one bench, and old cardio machines. It wouldn’t take much investment to improve it. Most of the gaming machines, including the air hockey, weren’t working either. Only the pool table worked, and they charge 2 euros for each game.

We hadn’t booked dinner, and when we arrived we found everything closed because it was a quiet hiking season. The chef said he couldn’t leave us hungry, especially with the kids, so they set up another table and made sure we had what we needed. Dinner was fabulous, and the chef is brilliant. The manager was lovely too and speaks so many languages. The staff were the best part of this hotel, so welcoming and open. We also enjoyed the breakfast. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable, and the views from this spot on the highest edge of Formigal are amazing. Thanks for taking such good care of us.
