Hotel Best San Francisco

Hotel’s stuff was great, and the food was good. It wasn’t just cold, like someone had written. Everything about the hotel was good, and I’m looking forward to returning next year. I stayed for the last four nights before it closed for the end of the season. Good hotel in a good location.

The hotel was clean and spacious, though it didn’t have many amenities. Our room was clean but felt a little small for me, a five-year-old, and a teenager. I’d emailed ahead to ask if the hotel could help with a special occasion, but never got a reply. That was okay, we were there to enjoy ourselves. As a POC, I found the food poor. Most of it was cold, and even after taking it from the hot plate it could still be raw or cold. The rice was like bullets. The wait staff were polite when I mentioned it, although on some dinners we weren’t offered water. The pool looked clean, but inflatables weren’t allowed, and the atmosphere felt unfriendly to me and my kids, even at the bar, so we went to the beach five minutes away. The Wi-Fi was absolutely awful, with no service the whole holiday. The location is very central if you know your way around, and the local bus stop is right outside. Our last day was frustrating because of a language barrier and no sense of urgency when our airport shuttle arrived late. It wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but customer service still matters. If you’re a POC, this hotel is okay for what you pay, though you may get stared down or called names. It could work as a crash pad. We still had a good time, and met two lovely families, one from Ireland and one from Ukraine. It’s a three-star hotel, not four. From our balcony we could see the Los Angeles hotel across the way, which seemed better for entertainment and the pool.

We’d been here two years ago and had an amazing time, so came back. This stay was terrible. The location is fine, but the rooms have no soundproofing. On the first night, we were on the street side next to a bar. I could practically hear people setting down their drinks, never mind the karaoke. The walls are paper thin, and we heard the couple next door arguing for an hour. It was entertaining, but being woken at 1am wasn’t ideal. We changed rooms, and the woman at reception was lovely and understanding. The cleaners were lovely too, and they’re the reason this isn’t a zero-star review. Beds are rock hard, which some people might like, but it wasn’t for me. Bar staff were so rude, and need to learn how to make cocktails. There aren’t enough sunbeds for the number of rooms, and the pool is very small. The food was easily the worst part. We only had breakfast, and it was awful. Some of it seemed to be leftovers from the night before, and it was stone cold. A very poor stay at a place we won’t return to.

The beach was lovely, the bar staff were polite, and the lobby toilet was clean. The rest of the stay was a complete letdown. Rooms weren’t cleaned properly, the air conditioning didn’t work, and reception staff were unfriendly. At checkout, breakfast was supposed to be included, but there was nothing available, not even water or fruit. The dining room was humiliating every morning. Even at the front of the queue, I had to wait while the cook ignored guests and did other things. It took ten minutes to get a single fried egg, day after day. The plates were dirty and the whole place felt neglected. Awful hotel, 0/10.
