Molino de Agua de Fataga

The site sits in a beautiful area, with a lovely viewpoint over the valley at the back, but we didn’t particularly enjoy staying here. The whole place looks tired and grubby, and we never slept well because of the cockerel crowing early. There are ponies, donkeys, hens, cockerels and cats around, and we got lots of bug bites. The pool and bar weren’t operating, though there was a barbecue area. The hotel area burned down a few years ago, and there’s now a campsite with a pool in a very rural spot overlooking the mountains. You can walk down to the pretty village of Fataga, head up into the mountains, or visit the old water mill. With a bigger vehicle, it’s best to approach from the south because the sharp right turn is awkward. The entrance is confusing too, since you go in past a no-entry sign to the camping area. They have the usual motorhome services and an amenity block, with separate shower rooms for men and women. Only one ladies’ toilet was working. We filled up from the supplied hose, but the water came out sandy and coloured, so we had to throw it away. I also found black mould on the shower head and didn’t use it. The ladies’ shower room door wouldn’t close because an electric cable was in the way. With some TLC, it could be a beautiful site again.
