Hotel Emblemático La Casa De La Camelia

The room was spacious and comfortable, with an exceptionally clean shower. Staff were welcoming and very helpful, and the hotel is right in the historic center of La Laguna, surrounded by shops, food and drink options. Sleep was a major problem. The rooms sit above two restaurants, and the big gaps around the main door and old windows let in everything. Music played throughout the day, and customers could be heard until the restaurants closed just before midnight. After that came the garbage truck around 1 AM, then people outside drinking until 3 or 4 AM. Earbuds didn't help. It wasn't as bad until the last night, when the outside noise woke me twice and pushed me to write this review. The hotel really needs to improve the soundproofing.

There isn't a reception or breakfast service, but the team was helpful and accommodating over WhatsApp and phone. Since the hotel is in the pedestrian zone, they pointed us to the closest parking. The room was beautiful and had a charming little patio for guests. In the central courtyard, there's a restaurant with delicious, well-prepared food. It has its own direct entrance from the hotel, though it isn't part of Casa de la Camelia. A lovely stay in the heart of La Laguna's historic center.

We stayed two nights in the Taimamo room, and got no proper rest either night. It was dark all the time, with the only windows facing the patio. Open the patio door and the wind makes the room cold fast. It looked nothing like the photos. The place is clean, the building is beautiful, and the bed is comfortable, but those things didn't make up for the rest. The old town location is ideal for exploring, but parking is difficult if you don't know the area, and we weren't given directions. Everything is handled through WhatsApp, and we never saw anyone who could explain things or make the stay feel personal. If I don't want to meet anyone, I'd book an Airbnb, not a hotel. There are also two restaurants downstairs, so cooking smells drift up and linger in the room, which was really unpleasant. The first night's noise until 11 pm was bearable. On the second night, even though the restaurant was closed, there was patio noise like furniture being moved until 1 am. We travel often and stay in hotels at this price, and this one wasn't worth it. I'd advise against staying here. Sorry to be so blunt about the owners, but they need to rethink the concept: either offer chic and charming at the price, or go with the American-style Motel approach they're currently delivering.

We had a two-year-old with us, plus a stroller and suitcases, and everything went smoothly from the start. The place is beautiful and spotless, in a superb spot in the old town of La Laguna. Within a few meters there are bars, an ice cream shop, a tobacconist, a pharmacy and a small supermarket; the tram is about a 10-minute walk away. Highly recommended if you just want a place to stay, without hotel amenities or an apartment kitchen.
