We used Hotel Rivera del Duero for an overnight stop between Alicante and Asturias. It worked well for exploring San Esteban de Gormaz and trying some of Spain’s best torreznos, voted so in 2024. The location is central and the historic old bridge is just a short walk away. Our room was clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed and effective air-conditioning. The basic bathroom worked fine, with good water pressure and a narrow bath-shower combination. There’s no fridge, which was a small drawback. Getting checked in was a little confusing at first since reception seemed to be handled by whoever was working in the hotel bar, but once we got their attention, it all went smoothly. We were disappointed that the hotel restaurant was closed during our stay. The room door used a keypad instead of a regular key or card.

Sofia gave us a first class welcome at reception and was incredibly helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is clean and practical, right in the town centre, and the rooms were tidy. The cafeteria and bar has a quirky feel, but the service is good. We didn’t eat at the restaurant, though it looked busy at lunchtime.

We stopped here to get some rest on the way to Salamanca, and it was a great choice. The town is lovely, and there’s parking right in front of the hotel, where I could keep an eye on my car from the window. The hotel was clean, the rooms were fine, and the mattresses were really comfortable. You can hear people opening their doors because they’re keyless, but it didn’t bother me. Having a restaurant and bar was just right for us on a holiday, when hardly anywhere was open for breakfast. We ate at the restaurant bar.
