Hotel Zenit Convento San Martín

We had a perfect stay. The location is excellent, very close to the seafront, and there’s a good bar with a relaxing place to sit. The rooms were very clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful, especially through the Concierge Service and Oihane, who was professional and friendly.

Breakfast was a highlight, with lots of tasty, nicely presented choices: fresh pastries and breads, natural juices, eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, and yogurts. The breakfast team were attentive and ready to help. Staff throughout the hotel were kind and helpful, too. We had a huge, very clean triple room on the third floor at Hotel Zenit Convento San Martín. The bed and pillows felt like true 5-star quality. The view was only of the backyard, which wasn’t much to look at, but everything else made up for it. A comfortable, pleasant stay, and I’d recommend it. Ask for a better view if that matters to you.

The bar downstairs makes excellent cocktails, and the staff were friendly but discreet. We spent two nights here in June. It’s beautifully finished and well placed for exploring the city, with rooms that are spacious by European standards and very comfortable beds. I skipped breakfast because €25 felt steep, and the city has so much to offer food-wise. The room views aren’t much to look at, as other reviews say, but that’s city life. I’d definitely come back.

The staff were kind and attentive, but the stay was disappointing. We had to ask for everything, including slippers, towels, and an iron, and the room had hardly any amenities, not even a smart TV. Bottled water came in cheap plastic and seemed to be rationed reluctantly. Housekeeping was poor: the room wasn’t properly tidied and shower kits weren’t replaced. The old iron they eventually brought leaked onto my clothes. Mold was a serious problem, and even after management moved us, the mildew smell was still there. Traffic and loud cleaning crews made mornings unpleasant. Restaurants closed early, and valet service wasn’t available after a certain hour. Breakfast was terrible, with stale food, juice that tasted fake, and unappealing presentation. Friendly staff aside, this was nowhere near the standard expected, more like a poorly maintained 3-star hotel.
